….met een goede balans tussen historische feiten en de inzichten die op basis van die feiten kunnen worden gevormd. En wel hierom :

….en deze keer op een basisschool in Friesland waar de “bovenschoolse” directie een juf weg probeert te werken. De bevolking pikt het niet. Zie hier en hier.

Bovenschools; is er een fraaier woord te verzinnen voor geen voeling hebben met de werkvloer?

I have this ongoing discussion with a longtime reader who also just so happens to be a longtime Oakland high school teacher, a wonderful guy who’s seen generations of teens come and generations go and who has a delightful poetic sensibility and quirky outlook on his life and his family and his beloved teaching career.

And he often writes to me in response to something I might’ve written about the youth of today, anything where I comment on the various nefarious factors shaping their minds and their perspectives and whether or not, say, EMFs and junk food and cell phones are melting their brains and what can be done and just how bad it might all be.

His response: It is not bad at all. It’s absolutely horrifying.

Dit artikel vond ik op de webstek van Richard Dawkins:

“A major campaign to boost the teaching of science and technology is needed if the UK is to keep its place in the global economy, a key report warns.

Lord Sainsbury’s Review of Science said there was a danger of a “race to the bottom”, unless British firms moved into high value goods and services.

The UK had a good science record but needed to boost it quickly, he added.

Ministers responded by saying teachers who retrained as science specialists would be given an extra £5,000.”

Op het blog “Dangerous Intersection” bespreekt Erich Veith een interview met Carol Dweck, psychologe aan Stanford en auteur van het boek “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.”

….en ik doel nu niet op de haring in/uit de Noordzee, maar het VK, alwaar dit bericht vandaan komt:

A very, very depressing read. Natuurkunde lijkt ook daar “uit” te zijn. Dit soort dingen helpen mijn koppijn niet )-:

Elders op het forum in een discussie betreffende het IVA Driebergen wordt gesteld dat een kleine school binnen een grote onderwijskoepel theoretisch wel kan, maar dat in de praktijk toch altijd weer blijkt dat het niet werkt; het “schaalvoordeel” dat een grote organisatie met zich mee zou horen te brengen wordt kennelijk niet verzilverd, maar leidt tot een geweldige inflatie in de overhead ten koste van het onderwijs.

Ik zou van het begrip “Primair Proces” de definitie dan ook alsvolgt aangepast willen zien:
“Het Primair Proces is datgene waar in een organisatie het meeste geld aan op gaat.”

Voorstellen tot verfijning zijn hartelijk welkom.

Het begrip “Inflatie” heb ik ooit horen definiëren als:
“Inflatie is het opblazen van getallen, zodat je er grotere delen van kunt stelen zonder dat dit opvalt.”

In die laatste vier woorden zit denk ik het probleem voor de koepels………..

Gevonden via The Register een artikel in The Sydney Morning Herald betreffende Australisch onderzoek over hoe onze hersenen omgaan met PPT presentaties.

Enkele citaten van de onderzoeker, Professor Sweller:

“It is effective to speak to a diagram, because it presents information in a different form. But it is not effective to speak the same words that are written, because it is putting too much load on the mind and decreases your ability to understand what is being presented.”

“Looking at an already solved problem reduces the working memory load and allows you to learn. It means the next time you come across a problem like that, you have a better chance at solving it.”

Sweller is verbonden aan The University of New South Wales.
